One of my favorite things is to bake is a buttermilk pie! This is a custard like pie that is traditional of the southern United States.
I discovered this sweet treat in the great state of Texas and I have been making them ever since. They are so easy to make, and even easier if you cheat a little and use a frozen pie crust. The frozen crusts come in packages of 2, so I usually make one for me and one to share.
You only need 4 ingredients:
4 eggs
1 cup of Sugar or Splenda
1 TBS all purpose flour
1 cup Buttermilk
Combine the above in a bowl and pour into unbaked pie shell. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes
For an added touch, use a seasonal cookie cutter and bake cutouts on a cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes.
The pie will look like this when it’s done. I love buttermilk pie best when served at room temperature.
Garnish with whipped cream, your pastry cutout, and some vanilla sugar or cinnamon sugar….
It’s easy as pie!!!!
Enjoy…xoxo
